Newly released Safari 5 rendering of its own download page.

Unbelievable. Never thought that something like that is possible to be accomplished in one’s household.

Looks like the butterfly wings are less delicate I thought them to be. The guy is touching them quite aggressively

Programmer's competency matrix

Somebody went through all the trouble of categorizing the heck out of various programmer’s qualities.

A good way to determine as to where exactly one’s strong and weak skills lie.

Snow Leopard, Apache and PHP

Mac OS X Snow Leopard comes with Apache web server preinstalled. It can be engaged by enabling “Web Sharing” under “Sharing” preferences.

To get PHP going on Snow Leopard’s Apache web server one would need to download the latest version of Xcode and install it. This will install PHP onto the system.

Now to tie the two together, visit the /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file and uncomment the line “LoadModule php5_module        libexec/apache2/libphp5.so”.

Restart the web server by disabling and then enabling the Web Sharing.

“Crazy heart”

Jeff Bridges is playing not-so-well-aged Dude in “Crazy heart”. I kept waiting for John Goodman to join in any time as Walter Sobchak.

Overall - not a very good movie. I’ve expected more, but the plot was very static, the romance between Bad and the girl was not very believable. Colin Farell and most importantly Robert Duvall seem to be just performing cameos.

Time is the singular measure of life. It’s one of the few things you can not get more of. Knowing how to spend it well is possibly the most important skill you can have.
The person who gets a job done in one hour will seem less busy than the guy who can only do it in five. How busy a person seems is not necessarily indicative of the quality of their results. Someone who is better at something might very well seem less busy, because they are more effective. Results matter more than the time spent to achieve them.

Gorillaz - Stylo

Very impressive, loving Bruce Willis’ cameo.

Get human on the phone

Now that is just awesome. Great idea, great execution.

iPad and iPhone To Do applications

I’m yet to find an explanation for the absence of a proper To Do functionality on an Apple platform.

Whatever is available out there seems more like an after-thought.

We have a To Do functionality built within the iCal app, it works great, syncs between multiple computers via Mobile Me, but there’s no iPhone app front end of any kind. Third party applications are also restricted from accessing it without installing any plugins.

Ability to create a task within Mail app is great, but the To Dos now are stored within Mail in a Note form. That is somewhat akin to having a separate RSS aggregator in Mail instead of Safari. The rationale for it is somewhat not clear.

Finally there are third-party apps, some of them quite great. But you are either limited to using your iPhone as the only mean of entering information, or you have to visit a website or install a plugin.

With a release of an iPad and its gorgeous Calendar application, an absence of a To Do functionality streamlined across the full platform seems awkward at best.
